Challenge:
Our client, a large rail infrastructure organisation, wanted to develop internal lean and continuous improvement capability throughout its organisation to support delivery of challenging regulatory and business plan targets.
Solution:

Our approach was to design and implement a bespoke programme structured to deliver an organisation-wide culture shift towards lean thinking.  Recognising the importance of people in any organisation, the programme was designed with an emphasis on human elements rather than just lean tools and techniques, to change the way that people believe, think, feel and act, rather than just teach them new tools they may not be interested in using.  Each delegate was taken through a mix of fully interactive training and follow-up coaching, where they delivered an improvement project based on a business problem to reinforce learning.

Results:

Throughout the programme internal lean champions were identified to receive additional training and coaching so that we could transfer knowledge and leave the organisation with its own internal lean capability.  In addition, the identified improvement projects delivered a wide range of benefits including financial savings in excess of £6m, plus other emotional, physical, and spiritual benefits including improved customer satisfaction and increased performance.
